破天荒な演奏といったらいいだろうか。教科書的な演奏ではなく、何をしでかすか分からないようなスリルがある。そのスリルは、アレクサンドル・マルコフのような作為的なスリルではなく、もっと自然にわき出てくるワクワク感のようなものだ。
ヴァイオリン1本だけで、聴き手をグイグイと惹きこみ、あれよあれよというまに一時間が過ぎる。
こんな演奏を目の当たりにしたら、おひねりを投げてアンコールしたくなるかもしれない。
気になることといえば、全体を通して短2度ほどピッチが高いのだが、これはギトリスのオリジナルなのか、はたまた復刻編集の際のミスなのか・・・。

本ライヴはジャズとギリシャ音楽の交流、といったものがテーマとなっている。本国ギリシャにて著名な女性歌手Maria Far
antouriを迎え、ギリシャの作曲家Mikis Theodorakisによる作品や数々の伝承歌を始めとした3つのパートから成る壮大な
組曲「Continuazione Greek」を軸とし、ギリシャ原詩の英訳版にLloydが旋律をつけた楽曲等を加えた内容。
神・自然・死霊への畏敬を感じさせる古代詩の内容も手伝い、硬質かつ学術的な雰囲気が感じられる音楽となっている。

ご注意頂きたいのが、本作に対し濃厚なジャズを期待しない方が良いということ。上記の様に本作は異ジャンル間のクロス
オーバーを目的とした作品であり、例えば前作「Mirror」とは大分毛色が違う。自分自身その様な期待をして聴いた為当初か
なり困惑したが、先入観を払い二度・三度と聴き返す内に少しづつ良さが見えてきた処。

まずMaria Farantouriの声。彼女の彫りの深いアルトボイスは包み込まれるようなスケールの大きさを感じさせる一方、ジャ
ズ・ボーカルと呼ぶには違和感がある。元々活動領域の異なる人なので当然のことなのだが、何処か高尚さまで感じさせる
声は、どちらかというとクラシック・オペラの領域に近い。
演奏はMairiaのボーカル中心に展開され、全体にカルテットの演奏が引っ込み気味なのが残念。特にボーカルの入る箇所
ではMariaの声の強さに耳を奪われるが、そこは割り切ってMariaのゆったりした声に素直に身を委ねるのが正解だろう。
楽曲においても全体に同じ速度・テンションの展開が続き(「Continuazione Greek」の終盤、ドラムスのソロ・パートが出てくる辺りから
漸くカルテットの演奏も熱を帯びるが)、特にドラムの活躍が控えめなせいかビート感は薄目。

Mariaの歌を楽しめるか否かにより作品の思い入れが大きく変わると思うので、心配な方は事前に試聴した方が良い。クロス
オーバーなLloydの活動を覗けるという意味では面白い作品だと思う。

自宅ではもちろん、車の中でも、携帯端末に入れて外出時にもよく聴いているが、何回聴いても飽きない。
バッハの平均律は有名であるが、このヘンデルのクラヴィーア組曲はもっと知られていい曲と思う。

最初の一音を聴くと、すっと風が通って心が震える、そんな印象を受けました。
演奏を通して、逆に静寂を常に感じさせるような、そんな演奏だと思いました。

ヘンデルの曲の録音としてどういう位置付けになるのか分かりませんし、キース・ジャレットの録音の中での位置付けも全く分かりません。
ただ、私のような素人が聴くと、精細であると同時に、音の1つ1つがしっかり聴こえるような気がします。音がへたらない。
また、落ち着いている運びなのに、音がキラめくような感覚を感じます。

少しだけ、ポリーニのChopin: 24 Preludes の演奏を思い出させました。
大理石のような・・・というのは硬すぎるのかもしれないけれど、1つ1つの音が「立っている」ような鮮明さがある。

なにはともあれ、要するに大好きです。

ヘンデル(Georg Friedrich Handel 1685- 1759)は、バロックの大作曲家であるが、彼の名を高めているのは声楽曲と、協奏曲を含む管弦楽曲である。しかし、クラヴィーアのためにも美しい作品を書いていて、組曲と名付けられたものが20曲ある。中で、ホ長調HWV430の第4楽章は「調子のよい鍛冶屋」の渾名で有名だが、他の作品の存在はおおむね地味だった。しかし、最近になって少しずつ注目されるようになってきたように思う。

私は、ペライアの1996年の録音(HWV427、HWV428、HWV430)の歌に満ちた味わいが忘れ難く、何度も聴いてきたのだが、このジャレットの録音も見事な一枚。このピアニストは、本来ジャズ・ミュージシャンとして高い知名度を持っていたが、ECMレーベルに少なくないクラシックの録音があり、このヘンデルもその一つ。

すでに多くのレビュアーの方に的確にフォローされているが、全体に肩の力の抜けた柔らかなテイスティングが絶妙で、これらの楽曲に相応しい奥行きを与えた良演だ。ト短調の組曲を冒頭に置いているが、この曲の第1楽章のアルマンドは、メロディアスなモチーフを用いながらも、対位法的な語らいを持っている。ジャレットがこの曲を冒頭に収録したのは、その楽想がいかにも音楽に誘うような風情に満ちているからだろう。

全般に短調の曲たちは、儚い透明な風合いを持っていて、ジャレットの操る自由で滑らかなピアニズムにより、どこか回顧的な情緒を漂わせている。一方で長調の曲には品のある喜びの表現が横溢していて、邪魔するものも隔てるものもない自然な美観をまとっている。中でも1曲だけということになると、最後に収録されている第1巻第1番の前奏曲だろうか。ゆったりと揺蕩うように心地よく上下する音階。その繋がりの中でやわらかく紡がれる音楽は無上の喜びを表現しているよう。まさにピアニストという表現者の幸福が聴き手に伝わる優しくも甘美な瞬間だ。このような瞬間を感じることの出来るこのアルバムは、やはり名盤の名にふさわしいだろう。ジャレットには、ぜひ他のヘンデルのクラヴィーア曲も録音してほしい。

Has given the version gives berühmten Concert of Aranjuez gefällt mir wirklich sehr gut. Ich kann Is mir immer wieder anhören und Cube immer wieder neu begeistert. Oder - nein, manchmal gibt Is Antworten, manchmal ist given Aussage eindeutig. Yesterday - auf dieser CD - jedoch nicht unbedingt. Fence Kokhba ist zur Hälfte recht Klezmer-lastig. Aber Erwartungen zerstört John Zorn praktisch auf dem Fuß. Kaum stellt Man sich auf etwas ein, kommt ein völlig anderer His im nächsten Stück. Die zweite Hälfte ist einfach - schön. Wunderschön sogar. Jemand schrieb einmal, John Zorn hört man nicht has dipped dem Herz, sondern place dem Kopf. Dem muss ich entschieden widersprechen.
